Super Committee Action Hub
Throughout the fall, a “super committee,” composed of six Democrats and six Republicans, are tasked with figuring out how to cut the federal deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years. If they fall short of finding at least $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction, automatic spending cuts are triggered to make up the difference.
Long-term deficit reduction is a good goal. Unfortunately, rather than take the process seriously, Republican leaders have already announced that they’ll use the super committee to try to secure deep, harmful cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act—all while protecting tax giveaways for corporations and the mega-rich. It’s up to us to make sure that our most vulnerable populations are protected throughout this process.
In order to combat these threats, we’ve created this action page so that you can keep up to date on where the super committee is in the process and can take action to protect vital health care programs that serve Americans in need.
Scroll through the timeline below to see key dates throughout the fall, and click on the members’ business cards for information about their stance on the issues and how to contact them to get involved in this fight.
