Save the Medicaid Lifeline

Medicaid is an essential lifeline for one in seven Americans, but the program is especially important to communities of color who are more likely to be uninsured. As we describe in our recent report and fact sheet, millions of seriously ill blacks and Latinos, as well as half of all black and Latino children count on Medicaid to get the care they need. Similarly, Medicaid provides a crucial safety net to millions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.

Communities of color in the United States disproportionately suffer from chronic diseases like asthma and diabetes. Cuts to Medicaid would put millions of people of color with serious health care needs at risk. They won't be able to get the care they need when they need it, they'll incur higher medical costs when they do get care, and they'll get sicker – putting them at risk of dying prematurely.

At this very moment, the Congressional super committee is considering cuts to the program! That's right: Some members of Congress would rather see millions of Americans lose access to necessary medical care than make billionaires and corporations pay their fair share of taxes.

Get involved in the fight to protect the Medicaid lifeline and the millions of Americans who depend on this vital program! It's easy to do, and it can make a big difference for people in your community. Just take one (or more) of the actions below.
