Since my mom discovered the Internet, she has been a voracious
forwarder of e-mails. I get all kinds of stuff from her-morality tales,
IQ tests, and even one titled "Interesting Aspirin Information."

alas, my mom is only doing what all her friends do, sharing stuff via
this magical thing called the Internet.

Sanjay Gupta, who came down with the flu while in Afghanistan last week. Dr. Gupta
received the appropriate treatment, but some people aren't so lucky. Some
people either don't have access to health care, or simply can't afford the
costs associated with seeing a doctor. And that's when H1N1 gets really scary.

We know that insurance companies can deny individuals their
health coverage for almost anything - for little things, like acid reflux, a
hangnail, even acne, and also for more serious medical issues like cancer or

Yesterday, three committees in the House - Education and Labor, Ways and Means, and Energy and Commerce - came together to release a health reform bill that goes far in fixing American's broken health care system. The robust bill (America's Affordable Health Choices Act) guarantees that everyone is covered and it promotes shared responsibility among individuals, employers, and the government. It effectively provides quality and affordable health care for all.

This week, health
insurance executives testifying before the House Subcommittee on Oversight
and Investigations demonstrated their willingness
to put profits before patients, to the horror of the Congressmen present.

While disparities in pay and professional opportunities
between men and women have been widely publicized, we have paid less attention
to the insidious gender inequality in access to affordable, high-quality health
care in the U.S. The White House, however, recognizes that health reform
presents an opportunity to tackle this problem.
