Would Sarah Palin be Covered Under McCain Care?

In Sarah Palin's rousing acceptance speech, the Alaska governor made a promise that wasmusic to many Americans' ears:
To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.
This is a momentous oath - and one that means Governor Palincannot in good faith support the health care plan of her running mate, SenatorMcCain. Why not? Unfortunately Senator McCain's plan wouldallow most insurance companies in the individual market to continue theircurrent practices of denying coverage, charging far higher premiums, andexcluding crucial medical services based on peoples' pre-existing conditions. Thiskind of discrimination by health insurance companies is meant to keep peoplewith expensive medical problems, like Down Syndrome or Autism, from cuttinginto profit margins. The McCain health plan does not adequately protectfamilies with special needs kids who may find themselves searching for healthcoverage in the individual market. Infact, other components of his plan may force more families out of theiremployer-based health plan and into this vulnerable position.
Hopefully Governor Palin will recognize these problems forconsumers in Senator McCain's health reform proposal and make good on herpromise to American families with special needs kids.
