Families USAis live from Denverthis week, and staff members were welcomed to the historic Democratic NationalConvention with an unequivocal call to action. Ted Kennedy, renowned advocateof health reform who is fighting his own health care battle now, highlightedthe magnitude of our challenge. The Senator for us all made the need for healthcare reform the focus of his speech in unambiguous terms:
This is the cause of my life -- new hope that we will break the old gridlock and guarantee that every American -- north, south, east, west, young, old -- will have decent, quality health care as a fundamental right and not a privilege.
We are hearing vigorous support for health carereform; it's undoubtedly a top priority. The enthusiasm we're seeing forFamilies USA's upcoming health care events speaks volumes about the need forreform.
Senator Kennedy represented all Americans lastnight - everyone who has ever been denied health coverage, struggled to payexpensive premiums, received devastating medical bills, or faced alife-threatening illness or accident. He has dedicated his life to makinghealth care affordable and accessible for all Americans, and last night hecommitted to pursue this mission until its realization. But he can't do italone; we have to help him realize this dream.
