Senator Kennedy Speaks at the Convention

Families USA is live from Denver this week, and staff members were welcomed to the historic Democratic National Convention with an unequivocal call to action. Ted Kennedy, renowned advocate of health reform who is fighting his own health care battle now, highlighted the magnitude of our challenge. The Senator for us all made the need for health care reform the focus of his speech in unambiguous terms:
This is the cause of my life -- new hope that we will break the old gridlock and guarantee that every American -- north, south, east, west, young, old -- will have decent, quality health care as a fundamental right and not a privilege.
We are hearing vigorous support for health care reform; it's undoubtedly a top priority. The enthusiasm we're seeing for Families USA's upcoming health care events speaks volumes about the need for reform.
Senator Kennedy represented all Americans last night - everyone who has ever been denied health coverage, struggled to pay expensive premiums, received devastating medical bills, or faced a life-threatening illness or accident. He has dedicated his life to making health care affordable and accessible for all Americans, and last night he committed to pursue this mission until its realization. But he can't do it alone; we have to help him realize this dream.
