Recess!
Posted by: Jeff Gordon on Aug 15, 2008
Earlier this month, both the House and Senate began the annual Congressional rite of summer known as August recess (cue the whistle). Members of Congress use this time not only to escape the heat and humidity of Washington D.C., but also to reconnect with their constituents in their states and districts.
That's why this is an important opportunity for us to reach out to our Representatives while they are at home. We should share with them our concerns about our health care system and the urgent need to pass real health care reform. You can be sure that the opponents of quality, affordable health care will waste no time (or money) getting their negative messages out to Members of Congress. Shouldn't real people with real stories be heard too? Congress is listening.
So, take advantage! Look for local town hall meetings where your Member of Congress is listening to constituents or even request an appointment in your Members' district office. You don't need to worry about what you would say or knowing all the policy details: just tell your story and ask them to commit to real health care reform!
